Cooperativity-driven singularities in asymmetric exclusion

چکیده
We investigate the effect of cooperative interactions on the asymmetric exclusion process, which causes the particle velocity to be an increasing function of the density. Within a hydrodynamic theory, initial density upsteps and downsteps can evolve into: (a) shock waves, (b) continuous compression or rarefaction waves, or (c) a mixture of shocks and continuous waves. These unusual phenomena arise because of an inflection point in the current versus density relation. This anomaly leads to a group velocity that can be either an increasing or a decreasing function of the density on either side of the inflection point, a property that underlies these localized wave singularities.

Asymptotics for the Norm of Bethe Eigenstates in the Periodic Totally Asymmetric Exclusion Process
The normalization of Bethe eigenstates for the totally asymmetric simple exclusion process on a ring of L sites is studied, in the large L limit with finite density of particles, for all the eigenstates responsible for the relaxation to the stationary state on the KPZ time scale T ∼ L. In this regime, the normalization is found to be essentially equal to the exponential of the action of a scala...

Cooperativity of ligand-receptor binding influences the input-output behavior of a biochemical system and thus is an important determinant of its physiological function. Canonically, such cooperativity is understood in terms of ligand-receptor binding affinity, where an initial binding event changes the affinity for subsequent binding events. Here, we demonstrate that dimerization-a simple yet ...
متن کاملStrong Asymmetric Limit of the Quasi-potential of the Boundary Driven Weakly Asymmetric Exclusion Process
Abstract. We consider the weakly asymmetric exclusion process on a bounded interval with particles reservoirs at the endpoints. The hydrodynamic limit for the empirical density, obtained in the diffusive scaling, is given by the viscous Burgers equation with Dirichlet boundary conditions. In the case in which the bulk asymmetry is in the same direction as the drift due to the boundary reservoir...
متن کاملDynamical Large Deviations for the Boundary Driven Weakly Asymmetric Exclusion Process
We consider the weakly asymmetric exclusion process on a bounded interval with particles reservoirs at the endpoints. The hydrodynamic limit for the empirical density, obtained in the diffusive scaling, is given by the viscous Burgers equation with Dirichlet boundary conditions. We prove the associated dynamical large deviations principle.

Asymmetric exclusion processes with locally reversible kinetic constraints are introduced to investigate the effect of nonconservative driving forces in athermal systems. At high density they generally exhibit rheological-like behavior, negative differential resistance, two-step structural relaxation, dynamical heterogeneity and, possibly, a jamming transition driven by the external field.
